The NC Department of Transportation has awarded the contract for the expansion of Highway 19 from I26 to Cane River bridge to a joint venture between Young and McQueen Grading Co. Inc. of Burnsville and Taylor and Murphy Inc. of Asheville. Project work began Sept. 2, 2008, with a projected October, 2012 completion date. As you enter Yancey County, you’ll see the construction activities of clearing, dirt moving, grading, erosion control, aggregate hauling, blasting, rock crushing, stream relocation, bridge building, paving, etc. Please be alert and drive carefully to insure the safety of the workers and other road users.
