John Johnson, Vice President of the Hospice of
Mitchell County Board of Directors, burns the promissory note for the Hospice
office building. The Board of Directors, volunteers and staff of Hospice of
Mitchell County celebrated the mortgage pay-off for the Hospice office building
at a dinner on Thursday, September 24. Hospice purchased and moved into the
former mental health office (located on the campus of Blue Ridge Regional
Hospital) in 2006. Grants from the Blumenthal Foundation; Cannon Foundation;
Janirve Foundation; Simpson Foundation; Samuel L. Phillips Foundation; a bequest
from the Celia Cash Estate; and gifts from the community made it possible for
Hospice to acquire and furnish the office building. Hospice of Mitchell County
has provided end-of-life care to the community for the past 17 years. Call
