Whitney Mitchell caught her cat packed and ready to go on a picnic, even though the basket is located on top of the kitchen cabinets! Sounds like this cat is related to Garfield...

Shane Wallace of Spruce Pine caught this big fish (largemouth bass) in Asheboro on April 18th. It weighed in at 7 1/2 lbs and was 25 inches long!

You may not recognize him but you can hear about this cat when you listen to "Murphy in the Morning". This is one of the cats that was part of the package when Murphy got married. This is "Felix the Great" when he was a kitten.

Vicky Hoilman took advantage of a rare opportunity when this red-headed woodpecker flew into one of her windows. He was dazed for a few minutes, which gave her the chance to get this picture. He did recover and fly off.


Jim Wiedenhaupt (in hat) was one of the blacksmiths demonstrating at this year's Blacksmith Festival in Spruce Pine. The Festival was a big success again this year with a crowd of people coming to watch the demonstrations and buy the blacksmiths' work. Photo by Mary Marsh.


Happy Birthday Friday, May 12 to Kayla Laplante. Kayla will be 11 years old. Her mom, dad and brothers say "Happy Birthday. We Love You!"

Timothy Whitson will celebrate his10th birthday on Friday, May 12th. He is in 3rd grade at Deyton Elementary. His proud parents are Rodney and Ann Whitson of Spruce Pine. They say "Happy Birthday. We Love You. God Bless You."

The Bears of Cub Scout Pack 501 recently toured WTOE. Pictured (left to right) Eli, Henry, Noah, Levi, Sam (brother of Jonah) and Jonah, along with WTOE's Dennis Renfro.


Nell Pendley is having her 8Th birthday June 1st with her 3 little sisters Orla, Rosie, Ruby and her little brother Rubin. Her parent is Jolene Blevins and her grandparents are Wheeler and Orla W Pendley.

 

 


Gary and Karen Ramsey, owners of Mitchell Glass would like to announce the wedding of their son Daniel to Miss Jenny Miller of Texas. Daniel is in the U.S AirForce. He is stationed in Colorado Springs, CO. He is scheduled to deploy to Iraq in September. They ask that you include him in your prayers.

Cody Laplante's 14th birthday is May 19th. A big "Happy Birthday! We Love You!" from his parents.

 


Remember that cute little kitten picture that you saw here a couple weeks ago (if not, and you would like to see it,  click here to go to archives), now this is "Felix" all grown up! What a beauty he is--though it does appear that he may have shredded something....hear all about the "escapades of Felix" on Murphy In The Morning on 1470-WTOE.

Carver Cook celebrates his first birthday with a bit of cake. Carver is the son of John and Sherry Cook of Spruce Pine.

MCC’s Correctional Educators Conference’s keynote speaker was Michael R. Napier,  with the The Academy Group, Inc. Napier served more than 27 years in the FBI, in positions in the private and public sectors.


Cinnamon and Nutmeg, brown bear cubs at Grandfather Mountain in 2004 when Hugh Morton took this photo. Hugh Morton, owner of Grandfather Mountain and an accomplished photographer died  Thursday, June 1st.


David LaPlante Jr. will be leaving for basic training on June, 7th.  Love His Mom and Dad, brothers and sister say they love him, will miss him and wish him well. 

Russell Freeman, a student at MCC, received the John Wess Sides IV GED Memorial Scholarship to assist in his goal of receiving a higher education.
