The 8th Grade History Enrichment Class at Harris Middle School at the dedication of the state highway historical marker on May 27th. The class, led by teacher, Chris Hollifield, requested that the State Legislature recognize the Spruce Pine Mining District with this Highway marker.

Lee Penland took this picture of her dog, Joey one morning right after he had been groomed. As you can see Joey is very proud of his physique and loves posing for a picture.

Clara with her new baby sister Ava. Ava was born May 16th.  Clara turned 3 on June 5th.

Oreo, a ten month old Boston Terrier is completely worn out after seven days of vacationing in Tampa, and Daytona FL., so tired he just couldn't keep his head out of his traveling water dish, so he simply closed his eyes before finishing off his water! Photo submitted by Suzy Whitson

 


Thank you to the many people who came out for the FREE night at the movie, Monday night, July 18th, sponsored by WTOE. The crowd had filled the Theatre by 6:15 pm so The Yancey Theatre kindly agreed to have another FREE showing at 9 pm. The crowd above lined up about 8:15 to get in the second showing.  Our apologies to anyone who was unable to get in at the 7 pm show.
